Is it possible to make a sustainable LED Lighting Fixture ?

Here's what we did to find out!

Problem Area

Disposable End Of Life

Many individuals tend to discard non working LED Lights, rather than repairing & continuing to use them for an extended period of time.

Why not repair and use them longer?

Often, the cost of repairing LED Lights is around 60 percent of the original purchase price. It is also challenging to repair by oneself. Hence, they buy new ones.

Design Brief

To design a range of LED lights to be used in home & commercial spaces for a longer lifespan, which are resistant to overheating and voltage fluctuations, are affordable and easy to repair.

What makes Lumik Sustainable?

4 part PCB 

How does this work?

Each quarter board has a positive and negative terminal which converge into 1 negative and 1 positive wire for the entire PCB through a 8 pin central connector. The PCB has the female part of the connector. The pins in turn connect to the driver.

How is it sustainable?

Replacing only a part of the PCB helps heavily reduce the amount of PCB boards that need to be manufactured for repairs and replacements. 
Since there is no soldering, this also helps reduce any metal residue of de-soldering

Standard Driver

How does this work?

Our family of lights are offered in 8W, 12W and 18W ranges depending on the place and intensity of use. The manufacturer can change the resistance regulator on the driver.

How is it sustainable?



To avoid manufacturing of different types of drivers to cater to these wattages, we created a ‘Modular LED Driver ’ where the resistance can be changed by the manufacturer using a regulator.
 

8 pin connector

How does this work?


The connector with 8 pins that fit onto the female connector on the PCB board acts as the power supply source and is easily removable while repairing.

How is it sustainable?

To avoid manufacturing of different types of drivers to cater to these wattages, we created a ‘Modular LED Driver ’ where the resistance can be changed by the manufacturer using a regulator.

Uniform Screw(M2X6) & Ceiling Bracket

Using one type of screw and ceiling bracket for the entire range of lights helps reduce the no. of molds needed for manufacturing which heavily reduces

Driver with Resistance Regulator

The same driver can be used in the entire family of LED Lights by simply changing the resistance value according to the wattage level of the light.
This results in manufacturing just one type of driver.

Lesser Soldering Work

Lesser Soldering Work means lesser time and cost to repair. It also means lesser waste of material. It also facilitates self repair.

Heat Sink
Heat sink is located at the base of the tube , it is designed in such way that the air flow can be dragged all around the product flowing which helps in efficient heat sink .

Easy Snap Fit
The snap fit used in this product is strong and clamps the whole light together . This slides into the position and locks and comes out with bit less pressure.

8 pin central connector
The 8 pin central connector has 1 positive and 1 negative terminal pin which is connects the LED PCB strip and the driver which is held by the body.

Slide Fit
The LED Strip easily slides into the base because of the groves provided.
